As many growing families will attest to, having a second toilet or cloakroom is indispensable. Our Gosforth client, Hannah, commissioned the NOOK team to transform an unused coal cellar in her impressive semi-detached home into a family-friendly cloakroom.

While the project didn’t need planning permission, it did require a toilet, hand basin, heating, lighting and extraction to comply with building regulations.

Accessed by a small pantry cupboard in the kitchen, the cellar has a very unique layout. This meant we needed to carefully measure and design every element to fit perfectly whilst retaining a pleasing aesthetic that the whole family would appreciate. We created detailed plans and designs that took into account the family’s needs and developed an exciting and contemporary look.

Once the building work was complete and the space was fit for purpose, we added space-enhancing white tiles for a bright, classic look. The addition of Farrow & Ball paint in ‘Teresa’s Green’ and vibrant wallpaper by Cole & Son, Acquario, gives the space a distinctive and sophisticated atmosphere that makes a real statement which the children enjoy using.

We’re thrilled to have successfully brought an unutilized area to life and added value to the property. Hannah said:

“NOOK’s vision and determination made the impossible possible. What an amazing use of space. With outstanding communication, customer service and immaculate time keeping the whole experience remarkably stress-free.”
